Our Local Presence

Being close to the local communities, employing and training people, developing infrastructure are keys to becoming truly sustainable:

Saipem has a presence in many locations around the world, operating with a decentralised organisation in order to respond to local needs and sustainability issues.
Everywhere it works, it plays an active role in the local community, giving its contribution to the social, economic and environmental life of the area, mainly in term of local employment and value creation. Saipem always engages with stakeholders in the communities where it has operations and when it enters a new area, it actively develops relationships with stakeholders in the local community, from the late planning and early construction stages of a project.
Saipem presence in local communities takes one of two different forms: a long-term presence where Saipem has construction yards or other facilities; and a mid-term or short-term presence in territories where Saipem is working on specific projects.

Saipem engagement with local communities depends on whether the presence is a long-term or short-to medium term, as shown in the table below.

Yard Project
Long-term presence Medium/short term presence
Direct contact with local communities Interaction with local communities coordinated in collaboration with clients and/or partners
Formal long-term commitment for local content in daily work by hiring local employees and using local vendors Flexibility to adapt the work to different local contexts, applying local or customers’ requirements
Long-term investment for socio-economic development in collaboration with local stakeholders Initiatives for socio-economic development carried out mainly in accordance with customers’ requirements
Engagement with local communities carried out directly by Saipem with long-lasting and structured approach. Engagement with local communities and authorities mainly carried out by the customers, while Saipem participates in the implementation of the activities.
